bad news/good news

Bad news: I jinxed it. My (other) window got busted out last night. At least it wasn't in my neighborhood.

Good news: We're going to see Mates of State on Monday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, remember when my car got broken into last year? Well, I've been taping the broken window for the last 1.5 years. It's been fun, you know. A little something to keep me busy, the sweet sound of tape flapping in the wind, the occasional blow-out (extra fun for backseat passengers), easy access to my cassette tapes for passersby, etc.

But now, my friends, it's over. Tak fixed my window! The moldy tape has been replaced with plexiglass and caulked and everything. Good as new! This could be the most exciting thing that has happened in 2010. (I'm going to clean off the old tape goobers and take new pictures ... expect them when the rain stops.)

Leana came to visit! After MOMA we met up with Leana and Tinbete (!) for drinks & dancing.

And the next day, my homegirls and I had an adventure trip to Big Sur. We thought that we would find elephant seals there (migrating and having babies), but it turns out we were misinformed. After driving 2.5 hours down the coast to Big Sur, we were informed that the elephant seals were actually another 2 hours away (in short, too far for a day trip). But we still managed to have an awesome time.

First we got lunch. Alena had some old jelly on her napkin, so she made this disgusted face until Lizzie took it off for her.

We drove down highway 1. It's breathtaking.

We visited Big Sur state park. I think we were on the wrong side of the highway, because all the trails were closed (from fires and mudslides). Anyway, at least we got this senior pic for Alena.

We also drove over this neat bridge. It is a landmark I can't name.

If we had stayed just a little bit longer, we could have watched the sunset. But then, driving the 1 in pitch black sounds kind of frightening.

Leana did not want to return to the Midwest.

This weekend was MOMA's 75th anniversary. And they had a party!

The line was 4 city blocks long. But it went quickly.

We got champagne and it was fance.

There were (roughly) a million bazillion people.

And they had this cool fireworks lighting everywhere.

Monterey-rey

Last weekend, Tak and I went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. It was INCREDIBLE. First we checked out the sea horse exhibit. They have pouches (like kangaroos). Did you know that?

That is not a plant. It is a seahorse (well, next to a plant, I guess). WHOA.

This was about seahorse fetuses or something. They were moving and I thought for sure they were real. But I guess that does seem a bit unreasonable. Maybe.

Apparently, if they don't swim down, they're pulled up toward the surface of the water (or so the kid next to me kindly informed me).

Somehow these fish only swam one direction in this tank. It must have been a loop.
